What do the funds from the books sold go to?

Where do donations go? Three key therapies that are transforming the lives of children at the Iris Centre in Varna

At the Iris Centre in Varna, we work daily with children with multiple disabilities – children who need more support, more specialised resources and more time to realise their potential.
Our foundation raises funds to support part of this, namely therapies that have been proven to aid the children’s development, communication and daily lives.

Here we present the three main therapeutic methods for which the donations will be used.

1. Biofeedback therapy – when the body and mind ‘work together’

Biofeedback therapy is a completely safe and enjoyable method for children, which uses play, technology and special sensors. The idea is simple: the child receives ‘feedback’ on processes in their body – such as breathing, concentration or muscle tension – and gradually learns to control them.

How does this work?

The child plays a computer game that is controlled not with their hands, but with… attention and calmness!
The more focused they are, the better the game goes.

Suitable for children with:

  • hyperactivity

  • speech disorders

  • autism

  • tics

  • difficulties concentrating

  • sensory issues

What are the benefits?

  • improved attention and memory

  • greater self-control
    easier emotional regulation

  • improved speech and motor development

  • less anxiety and stress

The therapy is also suitable for perfectly healthy children who wish to develop their concentration and cognitive skills.

2. Neurofeedback – brain training

Neurofeedback is a method that helps the brain to function in a more organised manner. Using EEG sensors, brain waves are recorded, and the child receives real-time feedback – for example, a video or animation that plays only when their brain activity is in the desired state.

This ‘trains’ areas of the brain that need improvement.

It is suitable for children with:

  • learning and attention difficulties

  • hyperactivity and impulsivity

  • speech and psychomotor difficulties

  • autism

  • anxiety and panic attacks

  • sleep disorders

What does it offer the child?

  • improved concentration and memory

  • emotional balance

  • less anxiety, stress and outbursts

  • more restful sleep

  • increased creativity and motivation

Neurofeedback is a scientifically supported method used worldwide in clinics, schools and development centres.

3. Snoezelen – a sensory room for calm and security

Snoezelen is not just a ‘room with lights’. It is a specially designed therapeutic environment that helps children to calm down, reduce tension and feel safe.

It features soft lighting, water columns, fibre optics, scents, sounds and textures – everything that gently stimulates the senses without pressure.

Suitable for:

  • children with autism

  • ADHD

  • intellectual difficulties

  • sensory hypersensitivity or overload

  • anxiety

  • behavioural challenges

How does the therapy work?

The therapist doesn’t demand anything.
They don’t say ‘do this’.
They follow the child – their needs, their rhythm.

Sometimes the child watches the lights.
Sometimes they lie down on a soft surface.
Sometimes they seek touch or pressure.

The results:

  • less anxiety and outbursts

  • better control over emotions

  • greater concentration

  • easier communication

  • stabilisation before or after difficult tasks

Snoezelen is a space where a child can simply… be.
